"Experience Ideas
Before They're Real" – that's the message for
the new 2009 release of Autodesk software. Chief
Technology Officer, Jeff Kowalski, was recently
quoted as saying "Autodesk's 3D modelling
technologies help users understand their designs
as if they were real. This interactive and
collaborative experience is why design is such
an exciting field, allowing people to do things
that were not possible even a few years ago".
The new products will be released very soon…
The software is
moving forward, but are you? Keep your skills up
to date, discover "light bulb moments", and work
on more cohesive standards within your office –
keep an eye on our web site for upcoming
training courses. Or do you have a need to
present to your staff or clients? Then please
make use of our
dedicated and fully equipped 13 networked
computer training centre.

Hot Issue
Have you noticed significant performance issues
with AutoCAD when opening drawings that contain
Xrefs, or using Copy/Paste and Insert functions?
Multiple custom Annotation Scales can cause
significant performance issues.

BubbleCAD
"BubbleCAD" is a new tool (FREE) for AutoCAD
users that displays the properties of any object
in the drawing at any time. There's no need to
run a command or go to a toolbar. Just move the
mouse cursor over an object, wait a second and
voilà!
Download BubbleCAD here.
SnagIt
"SnagIt" can capture an article, image, or Web
page directly from your screen. Or capture
windows, menus, icons, and regions from any
application that runs on your PC then easily add
text, arrows, or effects and save to a file or
share it by e-mail. You will wonder how you
managed before...

date Training Schedule.
About some of
the courses:
AutoCAD
We place a strong emphasis on understanding the
fundamentals of CAD logic, organisation and
geometry. Courses range from suiting new AutoCAD
users, or those who feel their foundation skills
need developing, to experienced AutoCAD users
looking for additional training to take full
advantage of the capabilities in AutoCAD.
Creating 3D Models in
AutoCAD
Creating 3D models helps users better visualise
and present designs that are created with CAD.
Learn fundamental concepts and workflows for
creating 3D models, how to create and modify
both solid and surface models, how to output 3D
models from your CAD system, and more. Take your
AutoCAD designs beyond 2D to the next dimension
- 3D!
Revit
We run through the basics, from building design
through to construction documentation. Students
will be introduced to the concepts of Building
Information Modelling (BIM) and the tools for
parametric design and documentation. After
learning the fundamentals, you will learn about
site design, advanced rendering techniques,
phasing and design options, how to create
families of custom components, and how to
collaborate on a design.
Photoshop
Fundamentals
Adobe Photoshop is industry standard digital
image-editing software. This course is designed
specifically for building designers with
compositing as the key focus. Photoshop will add
images to your rendered architectural drawings
letting you and your customers experience ideas
before they're real. Learn how to use tools for
creating, manipulating, composing and
compositing images; use layers and filters to
create special effects; blend colours and
textures; and add lighting to an image or change
an image from day to night.

Still on the subject of
robots…
Killer military robots pose latest threat to
humanity. A robotics expert at the University of
Sheffield will today
issue stark warnings over the threat posed
to humanity by new robot weapons being developed
by powers worldwide. But are they using Autodesk
Inventor or AutoCAD? |

Question:
What project management software do you use? Trevor wrote:
We recently had a new server installed that
resulted in the loss of Share Point Portal,
which we had been using to book our meeting
room, post meeting agenda items, book and manage
all work in the office, link to our Access data
base to locate project documents etc, etc. It
was really a fantastic tool and we started
looking for a replacement. We are currently
doing a ‘fit analysis' on ArchiOffice which
looks excellent, but has issues running on Vista
and may require a dedicated server (not a path
we want to go down after just spending $32,000). It
would be interesting to know what your other
architectural clients are using as project
management software and how happy they are with
it.

Our comment: Trevor, we've seen in action a very cost
effective software package called "TimeMatters®".
Time Matters® brings together all the critical
data that you deal with on a day to day basis
including Projects, Documents, Email and
attachments, Phone Messages, Timed phone calls,
Appointments, Tasks/ToDoLists, Contacts,
Calendars (including Meeting Room), Snail mail
logs, Web research (save URL's), Time and
Expense tracking, and even your Christmas card
lists. It also helps you keep track of your Work
Flow all in one central database. Once set up,
TimeMatters® automatically names and files
everything appropriately. This eliminates the
normal staff questions of where and how to file.
